Connect Claude Code and Cursor to WordPress
Claude Code and Cursor connect to AlphaBridge with a token. The plugin creates it and shows your endpoint and a ready-made config. Claude Code needs one command, Cursor the config.
What you need.
- A WordPress site with AlphaBridge. WordPress 6.5 and PHP 8.0 or newer. The free plugin is enough to start.
- An administrator account. You create the connection under Settings → AlphaBridge MCP.
- Claude Code or Cursor. Claude Code connects to the endpoint directly. Cursor runs the ready-made config, which needs Node.js 18 or newer.
In 6 steps.
Install AlphaBridge
Add the plugin from your WordPress dashboard, like any plugin, and activate it.
Pick your client
Open Settings → AlphaBridge MCP. Under “Connect your AI assistant”, choose “Cursor”, or “Other” for Claude Code.
Create the connection
Click “Create connection”. Under “Label, user, access, expiry (optional)” you can name it, limit its access and set an expiry. Without changes it gets full access for you and no expiry.
Copy the config at once
The plugin now shows “Config for Cursor / Claude Code” and the Bearer token. Copy them now. The token is shown in full only once.
Add it to your client
Claude Code: in your project folder, run the claude mcp add command shown below, with your endpoint and token. Cursor: paste the config into ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, save and reload the servers. If the file already lists servers, add only the alphabridge entry inside mcpServers.
Check it and ask
In Claude Code, /mcp shows the status of the server. Then ask a first question, such as which pages are still drafts. Changes wait until an administrator switches on write access.
One command for Claude Code, a config for Cursor
The plugin shows your endpoint, the token and the config.
For Claude Code, put the Endpoint URL and the Bearer token from the plugin into this command.
claude mcp add --transport http alphabridge https://your-site.tld/wp-json/alphabridge/v1/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR-TOKEN"
Claude Code then talks to your endpoint directly over HTTP, without Node.js.
For Cursor, the plugin shows a ready-made config. It looks like this.
{
"mcpServers": {
"alphabridge": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["mcp-remote", "https://your-site.tld/wp-json/alphabridge/v1/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH}"],
"env": { "AUTH": "Bearer YOUR-TOKEN" }
}
}
}
In Cursor, npx starts the helper mcp-remote. It sends each request to your endpoint, with your token in the Authorization header.
Leave Authorization:${AUTH} as it is. The token sits in the env line, after the word Bearer.
For a second site, create a connection there too. Add it under another name, such as alphabridge-shop.
Keep the token safe
- The token is shown in full only once. The site keeps only a hash of it.
- Lost it? Rotate the connection under Your connections. The old token stops working at once.
- Choose the access level “read only” or “content only” when a client should not do everything.
- Set an expiry in days for access that is meant to end.
- Claude Code keeps a server added with
claude mcp addin ~/.claude.json, for this project and only for you. - Every request runs with the rights of the WordPress user the connection acts as.
- Write access holds for every connection on the site, this one included. Changes then take effect immediately and can be destructive. Switching it on is at the owner's own risk.
What to ask in Claude Code or Cursor
The free tools cover content. Pro and Agency add code and deploy.
- List the pages of my site with their status and last change.
- Read the outline of the home page and list its headings and buttons.
- Which plugins and themes have updates waiting?
- Create a draft post from the notes in notes.md.
- Show me style.css of the active theme.
- Deploy the build folder to the site over SFTP.
The first three only read. The fourth needs write access. The fifth needs Pro and write access. The last needs Agency, Site Deploy set up and write access.
Other MCP clients and scripts
Any MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP and can send a header can use the endpoint directly. Send the token with every request as Authorization: Bearer ….
If a client strips the Authorization header, send the token as X-Api-Key instead.
Claude on the web, in Desktop and on iOS connects without a token. You approve on your site instead, as the connector page shows.
Questions and answers.
Do Claude Code and Cursor need a token?
Yes. The plugin creates one for them on its settings page, together with a ready-made config. Claude on the web and ChatGPT approve on your site instead.
Which access level should I choose?
With read only, the client sees what the account may see and changes nothing. With content only, it also changes posts, pages, media, terms and comments. The level full adds settings and administration. Whatever you pick, the site's switch for write access decides whether anything is written.
I lost the token. What now?
Rotate the connection under Your connections on the AlphaBridge MCP settings page. You get a new token and config. The old token stops working at once.
Claude Code still shows the old tool list. What helps?
Clients may keep the tool list they loaded. In Claude Code, run /mcp and reconnect the server.
Do I need Pro for Claude Code?
No. The free plugin gives Claude Code 40 tools. Pro brings 135 tools to one site, theme and plugin files included. Agency brings all 143 tools and Site Deploy over SFTP to up to 10 sites.
